Eleanor Roosevelt. What a tough ole mountain moving woman! I have definitely drawn some strength and fortitude from those wise words. There have been plenty of things I never thought I could do until someone, or something pushed me to do them. While those may have been difficult at the moment, but I am so thankful for those situations that showed me what I am capable of.
Today, I, Amy Cushman, owner of American Moving, finally graduate from Salem College! It has been a long road full of hard work and determination, and I will finally get to enjoy the taste of the fruits of my labor, and it is oh so sweet!
As owner of a company and an adult student, some people may have thought or even asked me- why are you going back to school? Well, in short answer, because I just wanted to accomplish it, to prove to myself that I could do it. And in a more liquid answer, because it has been my dream. A dream and goal that has come to reality, regardless of how cliched that may sound.
Myself, and the rest of my crew are no strangers to hard work, not by a long shot, and we aren’t scared of it either! People always ask me how I got into this difficult kind of business (especially as a woman) and the real answer, despite my location in life, is that I wasn’t afraid to work to achieve something.
Not only did I complete my degree while working more than full time hours as a small business owner, but also as a parent, as many of my staff do as well. At American Moving and Hauling we have goals, determination, and a tenacious work ethic that drives us to excel. We are proud of who we are, our hard work and our resolve to do the very best we can in all areas of life. We aren’t just dumb movers who pick up and put down, “we got smarts”, fortitude, and a desire to accomplish whatever task lies ahead of us.
I’ll end this little post with a saying my dad always says “This ain’t no hill for a climber like you.”
