It’s that time of year! And yes we are finally coming to slow down! While we love the busy, fast paced work atmosphere, we are oh so thankful for a break! We, as I am sure all of you, needed a moment to just catch our breath, relax, enjoy loved ones and family members. Maybe even enjoy a cup of cocoa by the fire with warm fuzzy socks our mom gave us for Christmas! In the spirit of Christmas love, tradition, rest and family I ask a few of our guys their family traditions. However, ladies first!
One thing all the “girls” in my family do is having a baking day before Christmas. My mother always buys all the ingredients and we spend the whole day in the kitchen making peanut blossoms, snicker doodles (which my mother reminds everyone every year that they are my brother’s favorite and she loves to watch him eat them!), fudge, peanut brittle, and cheesecakes. We wear our goofy aprons and play really bad, but comforting Christmas music. It’s a constant that I can count on.
“Big Beard,” Sean’s family always plays dirty Santa at his “Mamaw’s” house. One particular year he found a tiny gold boot in his granny’s basement which ensued an epic dirty Santa battle for this precious boot!
“The Slim Reaper”, Montini, says we cook and EAT! And he means eat, and his eyes light up when he thinks about his mama’s cooking. They spend days before making ham, candied yams, macaroni and cheese, his mom’s famous potato salad, corn bread and collard greens!
Sheen, has a daughter that lives in New York and he drives up every year to spend time with her and deliver her gifts. He spends an enormous amount of time hand picking each gift and looks forward to this trip every year.
So, what’s your family tradition? What is the one thing you can always count on that brings you and yours “comfort and joy.”
